Raven's Lodge is a small boutique stud situated in Victorian dairy country, just 15 minutes from Portland, and less than 1 hour from Warrnambool and Hamilton, it is the perfect place for raising quality young horses.
Our aim as breeders of both Pure and Partbred Friesian's, is ensure the public is aware of this beautiful breed, to show them through demonstrations and competitions, that the Friesian is no longer a short heavy 'draught' horse, but a capable Sporthorse.
Our partbreds are not bred to be black, nor to be 'Friesian' appearance, but to be a fierce competitor, loving companion, and quality all round horse.
The Friesian is a very old breed of horse, dating back many hundreds of years. Its use has varied from a war horse ridden by Knights and Kings, to a work horse for farmers through the 100 year depression, and on to a fancy harness horse for the wealthy to drive to town.
They have changed in size and stature depending on the time and requirements, but one thing above all has always remained the same... Their nature. They are intelligent, loving, playful and most of all, just love to be with people.
